Reflexology
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own balance. Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. It is a holistic non-invasive therapy based on the principle that each organ and structure of the body is represented in a specific area on the feet. Pressure is applied to the feet in conjunction with soothing strokes to help the body maintain its homeostatic balance.
It is believed to have a history that traces back 5,000 years to ancient Egypt, India and China. It was introduced to the West in 1913 as ‘Zone Therapy’ by Dr William Fitzgerald and further developed by Eunice Ingham in the 1930s.
It is a very relaxing therapy benefiting various conditions whether related to physical emotional or mental stress.

Appointment information:
Your appointment will last for approximately one hour. On your first appointment the therapist will take a full consultation to ascertain your medical history and any present health issues, lifestyle etc. This is to gain a better picture of you and to help to customise the treatment plan, to your specific needs and expectations. This information is of course completely confidential.
The treatment: You will either lay on a couch or in a reclining chair with your shoes and socks removed. The therapist will then observe the feet and apply a massage cream, she will begin by gently massaging the feet to promote relaxation. She will then start the treatment proper by applying pressure using her thumbs and fingers sometimes knuckles, noting any areas of congestion. To complete the treatment the therapist will hold specific points on the foot, the client may feel tingling or heat in the body while this is carried out. During the treatment, you may feel some discomfort in places, but it is fleeting and may be an indication of congestion or an imbalance in the corresponding part of the body. For the most part, the sensation is pleasant and soothing.
